1965. He is currently a United Nations diplomat and UN Resident Coordinator for Argentina.

UNICEF’s Gordon Jonathan Lewis replaced him as UN Coordinator, while Stefano Pettinato assumed the UNDP position. Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, appointed him as her Special Representative to UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People. He replaced Frode Mauing who served in this role since February 2011. Over 200 people work on the programme, most of them Palestinians. Their expertise includes planning, engineering and accountancy. Ten of these staff are UN volunteers. 74 are UNDP staff, while the rest are under service contracts. He is the head of the office and represents UNDP at its highest level in the occupied Palestinian Territory. He has overall responsibility for the operational management of activities that are under the guidance of the Administrators. He was quoted as saying the following during his appointment:

Since 2015, he has contributed a number of articles to “This Week in Palestine”. He represented UNDP in August 2017 at the inauguration the newly revitalized Khan Al Wakaleh tourist site in Nablus. The combined socio- economic heritage project, which includes a boutique hotel and guest accommodation with shop, has regenerated the area and created 1600 jobs. It is expected that the site will be sustainable for 100 years. He spoke at the event and said:

Valent started his career in the United Nations in 1995, as a junior professional officer in Albania. He was UN Municipal Administrator for UNMIK/DPKO Kosovo between 1999 and 2001. He entered the Suhareka Municipal Council offices in Haki Gashi on 18 January 2000 with UNMIK police and Dutch soldiers. He claimed that the offices were being commandeered for him. Ilaz Kadolli was taken into custody as a result of the raid.

He was a Deputy Resident Rep in Comoros, where he worked until 2002. Then he was assigned to Sudan 2002-2005, where he was Deputy Resident Rep. From 2005 to 2007, he was Deputy Country Director for the Democratic Republic of Congo for 2 years. He was the Deputy Special Representative for UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People from 2007 to 2010.
