Lees was appointed as the assistant coach of the Gulf Coast League Braves in 2001. Following the 2001 season, Lees was fired. Robert Lees, a Korean/American descendant, was the first Korean/American player to join the KBO. Lees presently resides in Clermont Florida with his wife and 2 children. Lees is currently a coach at a clinic in central Florida.
Lees was awarded an honorable discharge by the US Army in 1982 and was invited to join the Samsung Lions. Lees impressed scouts, and he was offered to participate in the first season of Korea Baseball Organization. Chun Doohwan, then-president, threw his first pitch. Lees was a pinch runner in 5th inning. Lees was only able to play a limited amount of games during the season. After one year in the KBO Lees was officially out of professional baseball.

Robert Lees graduated from Venice High School in Venice, Florida in 1977. He was a walk-on member of the Florida A&M University Baseball Team. Lees was on the 1978 roster, but was hindered by a nagging injury to his calf. He spent most of the season in injured reserve.
After limited playing time, Lees quit FAMU in 1979 and tried to make it in minor leagues. Lees was a half-season player for the Tacoma Tigers, but saw very little playing time. Lees enlisted in US ARMY in 1979 to put his professional career on hold. Lees spent four years in the US ARMY, primarily at Camp Humphries in South Korea. and various semi-pro teams in South Korea.
