Geddes, born November 14, 1955, was a Republican member in the Idaho Senate. He represented District 31 between 1995 and 2011. Geddes was a Soda Springs resident. Geddes was a resident of Soda Springs when he resigned as Idaho Senator to accept a position on the Idaho Tax Commission, where he served one year. Later, he was appointed Director of the Department of Administration by Governor Butch Otter. He retired in 2018.

Geddes was appointed president pro tempore on two occasions. He was required to act as acting lieutenant governor. Geddes also had to be the first in line to succeed the governor under Article IV Section 14 of the Idaho Constitution. In January 2001, Lieutenant Governor Butch Otter resigned and Geddes was appointed to act as acting lieutenant governor until Lieutenant Governor-elect Jim Risch took office. Geddes later served as acting lieutenant governor in May and June 2006. He was appointed Secretary of the Interior by Governor Dirk Kempthorne, who resigned to take the governorship.

Geddes was elected Majority Caucus chair in 1998. He served that position until 2000. Geddes was chosen to replace Senator Jerry Twiggs, who suddenly died while jogging. Geddes was president pro tempore from 2010 to 2010, the longest time any senator held that position in state history.

Geddes, a native Idahoan who was born in Preston in 1974 and graduated from Preston High School in 1975, is a Preston High School graduate. After earning an associate degree at Ricks College, Geddes paused his studies for a two-year mission in Austria for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1981, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology at Utah State University. He married Tammy, and they have five kids together. Geddes began his career at Conda Partnership in 1981. He worked there until 1985. From 1985 to 1985, he was an environmental engineer for Monsanto Soda Springs. In 2011, he took a one-year leave to join the Idaho State Tax Commission.

In 1995, Governor Phil Batt appointed Senator Dennis Hansen to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. This created a vacancy at the Senate for District 31, which he later named Geddes. Geddes’ father Robert C. Geddes was 33 years a state representative representing the same district. They were both in the legislature concurrently for five years.

On January 18, 2011, Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter appointed him to be chairman of the Idaho State Tax Commission and Geddes immediately resigned his Senate seat. The Senate confirmed his nomination on February 4, 2011, by voice vote. Geddes served in that position until February 21, 2012, when he resigned and returned to Monsanto.
