Robert J. Schoelkopf is one of the most popular and richest Physicist who was born on January 24, 1964 in New York, United States. Robert J. Schoelkopf III was born January 24, 1964. He is an American physicist. His work on quantum computing, as well as being one of the inventors superconducting qubits, is what made him famous. Schoelkopf’s primary research areas include quantum transport, single electron devices, and charge dynamics within nanostructures. His research focuses on single-electron and quantum- effect devices for both fundamental physical studies as well as applications. These techniques often involve high-speed, highsensitivity measurements at low temperatures on nanostructures. Schoelkopf is the director of Yale Center for Microelectronic Materials and Structures and associate director of Yale Institute for Nanoscience and Quantum Engineering. Schoelkopf has been the director of Yale Quantum Institute since 2014.
Schoelkopf was an Australian visiting professor at University of New South Wales in 2008. Schoelkopf has been invited to lecture at universities and professional associations in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Schoelkopf was semi-finalist in Discover magazine’s Technological Innovation of the year 1999. He also received the NASA Technical Innovator Award. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Physical Society.
Schoelkopf was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2015. His other honors include Fellow in the American Physical Society and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Robert Schoelkopf’s research focuses on developing superconducting devices that can process quantum information. This team, led by Steven Girvin and Schoelkopf, made a significant breakthrough in quantum computing in 2007 when they created a superconducting communication bus to store and transfer data between distant quantum bits or qubits on a chip. Their work is the first step in making quantum computing fundamentals useful. Their team presented the first electronic quantum processor capable of performing a quantum computation in 2009.
