She has presented at numerous conferences and study days on a variety of psychological and social issues. Yahav also reviews articles for publication in academic journals. Beginning in 1982, Yahav has taught and directed training programmes that provide instruction in a variety of psychotherapy approaches in the Continuing Education Department of the Faculty of Welfare and Health Sciences at Haifa University. In 1993 she was appointed Director of the Department. In this role, which she held for 6 years until 1999, she established the three-year psychotherapy training programme, the two-year group facilitator programme and developed a wide variety of training programmes in therapy, welfare and health. Parallel to this, and alongside all her various activities over the years, Yahav supervised students, staff and colleagues and taught as an academic faculty member of the School of Social Work.
Beginning in 1994, Yahav served as the academic director and chairperson of the steering committee in the three-year psychotherapy training programme. The programme was designed for clinicians with MA degrees and higher. She guided the programme through the licensing process until it was recognized by the Israel Psychotherapy Organization. Over the years, over 400 students with advanced degrees completed the programme. There have been 25 lecturer and, group facilitators-supervisors. In addition, about 60 external supervisors have been associated with the training. Within the framework of this role, which she continues to this day, Yahav is responsible for preparing multi-year study programmes, bringing in lecturers, overseeing the supervision process, interviewing and selecting students and supervising the professional team.
Yahav was part of the founding group that established the Tzafta Center for Advanced Culture, Haifa between 1979 and 1990. She also served as the volunteer head of both the membership and repertoire committees. Yahav graduated from the Minister of Tourism’s advanced course for directorship in preparation for her role as Director of the Society for the Development of the Old City of Acco. She held this position from 2000 to 2003. In that capacity, she produced an audio-visual presentation which is on permanent display at Hamam el Basha. Additionally, she started the production and distribution of promotional films for Acco. Yahav also established a tourist cruise linking Acco and Haifa. It will be operational in the near future. Yahav was included in the Forum for “Constitution by Agreement”, which was established by The Israeli Center for Democracy. Its purpose is to put together a constitution for Israel.

Yahav was a child and teen counselor. She used play, therapeutic conversations, and parent guidance to help children and adolescents. She worked for 15 years at Technion’s Psychological Services, where she specialized as a psychotherapist for young adults suffering from anxiety, shyness and depression. Her therapeutic work is based on classic and contemporary psychodynamic theory, psychosocial approaches, cognitive- behavioural approaches and a number of family therapy approaches. Yahav worked in 1978-1979 with Rambam Hospital’s Psychiatric Clinic, and also conducted family interventions. Yahav established a private clinic in the 1980s that she still runs to this day. Yahav sees psychodynamic psychotherapy clients for long-term and supervises other clinicians. In the middle of the 1980s, her therapy and work shifted to theories that she found more complicated. She continued her education and therapy by studying Jungian psychotherapy, Anna Freud’s Ego-Psychology Theory and Melanie Klein and Winnicott’s Object Relations Theory. These approaches are used by Yahav when she conducts psychotherapy with adults under parental guidance. This clinical work is a solid foundation for research.
Rivka Yahav was born at Haifa in 1950. Her parents arrived in Israel in the boat “Exodus” two years earlier. Many of her family members, who were originally from Galicia, Poland, were killed during the Holocaust. Her father, a Russian soldier, was killed in World War II. Yahav was a student at Hugim High School in Haifa, and was a member of the Intelligence Services. Yehuda Monheim was a Technion student in mechanical engineering. She married Yahav in November 1971. Two years later, in October 1973, First Lieutenant Monheit was killed when a shell struck the barge he was commanding while crossing the Suez Canal. Yahav gave birth three days later to their eldest son, a boy. She married Yona Yahav in 1983. Yona was elected mayor of Haifa 2003. Yona Yahav requested to adopt her son after they got married. After a lengthy legal battle, the couple were able to change the Names Law. [1] “The amendment allowed adopt children who were the offspring of Israeli war victims to keep the family name of their parents, thereby preserving their memory and commemorating them.” [2] Yahav started her academic studies at Haifa University’s School of Social Work in 1970. She received her BA in 1973 and her MA in Social Work 1978. Her master’s thesis was on “Assertive Behavior for Promoting Leadership”. She studied Psychotherapy at Rambam Hospital in Haifa between 1987 and 1990. In 1996, she completed her PhD in Haifa University’s School of Education. Her doctoral thesis dealt with the topic “The Symptomatic child as maintainer of the family unit”. Parallel to her studies Yahav also worked as a psychotherapist and social worker in various settings: schools, Rambam, Carmel Hospitals, private practice, and psychological services for students at Technion (1975-1990). Yahav was the Director of Haifa University’s Interdisciplinary Community Clinic since 2002. [3] She was elected chairperson of Israel Psychotherapy Organization in the summer 2009. This position she held until 2013. In 2010, Yahav was an associate professor (expert track), at Haifa University. She is married and has two children.
