Rishi Narain is one of the most popular and richest Golfer who was born on January 28, 1962 in New Delhi, India. Rishi Narain, born 28 January 1962, is an Indian golfer. He is the editor-in-chief for Golf Digest India. India’s 1982 Asian Games representative was Narain.
He returned to India in 1989 to continue his career on the PGA Tour of India. He won the Southern India Wills Open, and then the SRF Open Championship in 1991.
In 1998, he joined IMG as Director – Golf Business, South Asia where he worked until 2003. Thereafter, he set up Rishi Narain Sports Marketing. The company has over the years marketed and conceptualised golf properties in India such as the Louis Philippe Cup, the World Corporate Golf Challenge, and the Duke of Edinburgh Cup. They are also organisers of South Asia’s largest expo for golf – The India Golf Expo.
In 2015, Narain was named as one of Asia’s most powerful people in golf at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit.
Narain became a professional golfer in 1987. He was trained under John Geertsen Jr, who served as director of instruction at the Pebble Beach Golf Links Golf Clinic.

Narain started playing golf when he was 12 years old after watching his father at the Tollygunge club in Calcutta. In his late teens, Narain moved across the road from the Royal Calcutta Golf Club. He was already a six handicap player having won both the All India Junior and All India Amateur tournaments organized by the Indian Golf Union in 1979 and 1984. He became the first player to win the Junior and Amateur titles.
He attended Brigham Young University (BYU) as a recipient of a golf scholarship. This was the first Indian to receive such a scholarship. As a student at BYU Narain was a member of the Men’s golf team, and represented India at the Asian Games. Rajiv Mohta, Laxman Singh and Amit Luthra won the team silver. Singh won the individual gold and Mohta the silver. Narain narrowly missed the bronze after bogeying on the final hole.
Narain was the honorary secretary of the PGA of India between 1992–1997, apart from being coach to the Indian national golf teams.
