Rio Diaz is one of the most popular and richest Actor who was born on August 14, 1959 in Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines. Rio Diaz- Cojuangco, born Rosario Aspillera Diaz, was a Filipino beauty and television presenter, actress, politician, and singer. She was the sister of Gloria Diaz, former Miss Universe 1969. In 2004, she was diagnosed and treated for stage four colon cancer. Through another sister Aurora, Wilson’s mother, she was her aunt.

In 1998, she was elected vice-mayor for Pontevedra and Negros Occidental, while her husband received a seat in Congress. Later, Diaz was elected president of the Negros Occidental vice-mayors’ association.

Six years after the original diagnosis, Díaz died on 4 October 2004 at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, California, at the age of 45.

In December 1998, she was referred by American doctors to have a routine exam. They found a small growth on her left abdomen. They discovered a fourth-stage malignant tumor in Diaz’s abdomen after a six hour surgery. Diaz was given three more months to live. Another operation was performed and she received chemotherapy for three more months.

Born in Manila, Diaz is the youngest of 12 children to Teresa Aspillera and Jaime Diaz. She was a ramp and commercial model and was crowned Mutya Ng Pilipinas in 1977. In the same year, she won Fourth Runner-up at Miss Asia Pageant.

Diaz fell in love with Hajji Alejandro and they moved to Los Angeles together, California. They owned a small restaurant on Melrose Avenue. Diaz, who had separated from Alejandro in 1991, returned to the Philippines and began her entertainment career. In 1991, she hosted Eat Bulaga. She stayed there for several years until meeting Charlie Cojuangco in 1993 on a blind date and getting married the next year. Diaz was a television star and worked in many films for the majority of the 1990s.

In 1999, Stanford oncologist Dr George Fisher, declared she had been cured. When the cancer cells returned in May 2000, Rio travelled back to Stanford for an eight-hour surgical procedure and another round of chemotherapy sessions. Díaz stopped the sessions in 2002, citing her body’s inability to cope further, but her physicians later that year said she had no recourse but to continue treatment.
