Tamm was born in Tartu, and grew up near Polva in Peri. She is the daughter two doctors. Between 1997 and 2000, she attended Miina Haarma high school in Tartu. She was an undergraduate at Tartu University from 2001 to 2005, studying molecular diagnostic. From 2005 to 2007, she studied for her master’s degree. In 2007, she began her PhD studies. Her master’s thesis was written under the supervision of Kersti Oselin and Andres Metspalu. It was called Human thiopurine methyltransferase pharmacycogenetics: Genotype-phenotype correlations and haplotype analysis in Estonians. She was one of 26 scientists selected to travel around Estonia in 2011 and participate in events at schools, universities and colleges.

Tamm has published research in scientific journals, and presented it to a wider audience in other venues such as the newspaper Postimees and Radio Kuku’s Falling Apple (Kukkuv orn – 28 Aug 2010) and Eesti Televisioon’s Good Vision (15 Oct 2009, 20 Oct 2011, 17 Jan 2012). Rakett69’s Estonian science competition saw her as a judge.
