Ephraim Vega, a Puerto Rican American professional wrestler, was born December 2, 1976. He is most well-known for his work in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ringname Machete and Internationally as Ricky Vega. Vega was a high school football star who was selected to All-Section and All- conference teams. He was also named to All County 1st and Junior Teams. Vega was unable to play college football due to a knee injury. However, he went on to have a successful career as an Insurance professional before deciding to pursue a career in wrestling. Ephraim Vega was a freelance journalist and wrote a column under general sports for Examiner.com/Kansas City. Vega is currently a police officer in law enforcement.
Vega signed up with the International Wrestling Association in Puerto Rico on August 17, 2007. Vega won his first match and defeated Cruzz and El Bacano. Vega saved Shane by intervening in a match between Glamour Boy Shane (IWA) and Billy Kidman (NWA). The RS Express tag team was formed by Shane and Vega. The RS Express made their debut against The Naturals, the IWA World Tag Team Champions (Chase Stevens, Andy Douglas), but was disqualified by Los Aerios and The Star Revolution Corporation, who were competing for the title of tag team champion. The RS Express was disqualified again after Douglas struck Vega with his championship belt. Douglas struck Shane with his championship belt in a rematch. However, Orlando Toledo, manager of The Naturals distracted the referee and he was not disqualified. The RS Express challenged The Naturals to a street fight for the tag-team championship belts. However, Tim Arson’s interference caused The Naturals to win again. The Naturals, The RS Express and Blitz and Chicano were invited to a four-corner tag team elimination match. The winner would travel to Las Vegas to face the NWA World Tag Team Champions. Douglas was able to pin Vega after Arson hit him with a fire extinguisher. Arson and Vega were able to start a feud. Arson won their first match, but Vega won the second and set up a rubber match. Arson was defeated by Vega, ending the feud.
In April 2008, a real-life disagreement between Mario Savoldi and Savio Vega meant that the company stopped promoting events, until Savio was awarded the company and its assets after court proceedings. IWA returned to television in May 2008, and a tournament was held for a new IWA Champion. The final match was between Blitz and Chicano; however, Vega returned to the IWA with the title in tow. Vega had been thought to be on the side of Savoldi in his dispute with Savio, which was why the tournament had been set up. Despite this, Vega was entered into the tournament final, making the match a three-way dance. Vega was knocked out of the match by Savio, but later returned to the match as the special guest referee after Savio, the original special guest referee, was knocked out by Blitz. Vega counted out Chicano, making Blitz the new champion. He then aligned himself with Blitz and La Rabia, and challenged Savio for his RXW World Heavyweight Championship. Vega defeated Savio in a non-title match, but then lost the championship match after Savio hired a villainous referee to ensure his win. After the match, Vega was given an emotional send off by the fans perhaps sensing the end was near for high level wrestling in PR and opportunities for the company to import top notch American talent. During his time with the IWA, Vega was recognized as the Undisputed Champion of Puerto Rico, wrestler of the year and was elected as the best wrestler in Latin America during his reign.
Against All Odds in February 2006, Vega made her debut in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling as “Machete” and replaced Apollo as a member The Latin American Xchange. The match was lost by the LAX to The James Gang (B.G. James and Kip James were pinned by B.G. pinned Machete. LAX defeated “La Migra”, on Impact! they interfered in James Gang matches, until the feud reached a head when LAX faced The James Gang at Destination X on February 12, but lost to Machete after being pinched by Kip.

From 2005 to 2007, Vega was a part of the Coastal Championship Wrestling company (CCW), in Miami. His highlights include wins over Shane Mclain, Preston James, Bruno Sassi and Gino Carruso, as well as victories over Preston James and Gino Carruso in a West Miami Battle Royale. Highlights include a match of the Year candidate for a three way dance featuring Kahagas, Jerry Lynn, and a CCW championship defeat to Shawn Murphy. Vega worked in Coral Springs, Ocoee and West Miami with CCW.
In August 2006, Vega entered Dynamite Championship Wrestling. Viper was his first opponent. He won the match and was awarded the Heavyweight title due to Hector Guerrero’s resignation. He would defeat Matt Bentley to become champion. Vega was later stripped of the title and it was left vacant, setting the stage for a title tournament. Vega defeated Bobby Barretta and JB cool to advance to the finals against Glacier. Vega had formed a friendship with Glacier in DCW, saving each other at past events. The match was fair and competitive until Don Kiko Cabana came down and helped Vega regain the title. Vega would continue to fight Glacier for most of the year until they met in a Lumberjack match. Benny Blanco, Simon Sez and Vega won the match. Simon Sez was made commissioner due to Vega winning. Vega would win his title against Team 3D’s Brother Devon. Bill DeMott helped set up a table match, with Team 3D facing off against Vega or Demott. Demott would retire in the match. Team 3D won by putting Vega through a Table.
Machete made his return to TNA on the February 15, 2007 episode of Impact! pushing Konnan, who at that time was using a wheelchair due to hip surgery, to the ring for LAX’s tag team match against Shark Boy and Norman Smiley. Machete would play a major role in keeping LAX Tag Champions by interfering first at Against All Odds then again at Destination X in matches against Team 3D. Later at an Impact! taping, he assisted Homicide in defeating Scott Steiner and Brother Devon in a three-way tag match. Vega would also keep Voodoo Kin Mafia (formerly The James Gang) from winning the belts on Impact! by again interjecting himself in the match. Vega was also involved in the Belting Pot match between Team 3D and LAX, which would turn into a gang scuffle between LAX Latino Nation members and Brother Ray’s Italian Brotherhood. He would work as LAX’s enforcer for a brief time before deciding to take an offer from the IWA in Puerto Rico.
