Since 1999, he has been an ACM Fellow. He is currently a member of ACM SIGMOD’s Advisory Board, of ACM History Committee and of ACM Ubiquity’s Editorial Board.
Snodgrass proposed to the ACM Council “a new ACM Service, the ACM Computing Portal”, a web-based repository for bibliographic information about all computing literature. It was estimated that the proposal would contain one million items, which captures computing’s entire history from 1940 to 2000. On May 21, 2003, the ACM Portal (also known as the ACM Guide) was made available to the public.
Christian Jensen and Snodgrass co-chair TimeCenter, an international centre for the support of temporal databases applications on both traditional and emerging DBMS technology. Since 1997, the center has published over 90 articles. Many of these have been accepted by leading computer science journals.

The TSQL2 committee was established in July 1993. It was responsible for the design of TSQL2, a temporal extension of the SQL-92 language standards. Snodgrass was the chair of the TSQL2 linguistic design committee. The following January, the committee produced a preliminary language specification. This was published in the March 1994 ACM SIGMOD Record.
Since the mid-90s, Snodgrass has been volunteering for Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He has previously chaired ACM Publications Board, ACM History Committee, and served on ACM Council. From 1997 to 2001, he was the chair of the ACM SIGMOD Special Interest Group on Data Management. He was Editor-in Chief of the ACM Transactions on Database Systems from 2001 to 2007.
Snodgrass and his doctoral student originated the concept of valid time and transaction time. As of December 2011, ISO/IEC 9075, Database Language SQL:2011 Part 2: SQL/Foundation included clauses in table definitions to define “application-time period tables” (valid-time tables) and “system- versioned tables” (transaction-time tables).
