He is also a musician, DJ, author, and musician. He is best known for his role in electronic dance band The Grid. However, he has worked as an engineer and producer since the 1980s with artists like Marc Almond, Joe Strummer, Marc Breyer P-Orridge and Bryan Ferry.

David Ball and Norris collaborated again in 1988 when they founded the electronic dance group The Grid. They signed to Warner Bros Records/East West Records back in 1988. The Grid’s six Top 40 UK Singles Chart hits included “Floatation”, “Texas Cowboys”, “Rollercoaster”, and “Floatation”. It also had the multimillion-selling Swamp Thing, which reached number 3 in the UK charts. In nine other countries, it was also a Top Ten hit. It was finally certified a Silver Disc.

From their 1988 formation, The Grid has been around until today (as of 2018), with a five-year break between 1998 and 2003. Norris, who formed The Droyds during the break and mixed tracks for Armand Van Helden (and Siobhan Fahey) under that name.

Norris started music making as a teenager in the St. Albans punk group Innocent Vicars. He recorded two singles for No Brain Records in 1980 – Antimatter’, and ‘Funky Town’. Before becoming a writer at NME in 1987, Norris began his career in the music business as the British psychedelic record company, Bam Caruso.

Two fake compilations of acid-house songs were released by Genesis P-Orridge and Norris of Psychic TV in 1988. Each was attributed to a different alias, including Mista Luv and DJ Doktor Megatrip. These two albums were titled Jack the Tab or Tekno Acid Beat. They wanted to convince people that the music was already popular in Britain and encourage acceptance.

Norris’s band, The Grid, collaborated with the King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp on the Grid album ‘456’. The Grid also remixed David Sylvian and Robert Fripp’s track ‘Darshan (1993)’ and in 2014 released the previously unheard Grid/Fripp collaboration ‘A Cabala Sky’
