Charland would make his return to Japan in 1984 to compete for the UWF’s shoot-style UWF. He would also wrestle Rusher Kimura and Ryuma Go as well as Super Tiger. He returned to Montreal after completing a single tour.
In August 1990, he returned to Japan to wrestle a tour for All Japan Pro Wrestling. While there, he primarily teamed up with Eric Embry, Rip Morgan, and The Trooper. After the tour, he returned to Montreal to wrestle its independent circuit and also was french commentator with Marc Blondin for WCW . In late 1991, Charland adopted the moniker “Blast”, in an attempt to resurrect the Demolition name and gimmick, with Bill Eadie as Ax, but were eventually sent a cease and desist letter by the WWF.
Charland would join the WWF on shows throughout the United States and Canada for nearly three years, until May 1990.
Charland was a member of the new Lutte Internationale, which was founded in Montreal in 1980. He won the Canadian International Tag Team Championship with Len Shelley shortly after. He and Shelley lost the title to Le Bourreau and Swede Hanson a year later. However, they regained them the following year. Their second reign would not last as long as their previous one, however, when they lost the titles to Gino Brito, and Rick McGraw.

Mad Dog Vachon encouraged Richard Charland to become a wrestler. Charland had been a student of judo when he met the mat legend and encouraged him to pursue professional wrestling. Charland was a good listener and began amateur wrestling at 16 years old. In Montreal, he made his debut in Grand Prix Wrestling and defeated Pat Gerard Jr. in their first match.
He fought his first overseas wrestling tour in 1974 for International Wrestling Enterprise Japan under the name “The Tempest”. He would eventually move to Toronto in 1975 to wrestle for Maple Leaf Wrestling. He spent a year in Toronto before moving to the United States. In 1976, he wrestled for The Sheik’s Big Time Wrestling, Detroit, under the name Mauler Maone. He would stay in Detroit for almost two years before returning to Montreal in 1977.
In May 1985, Charland won his third Canadian International Tag Team title, this time with King Tonga. However, his reign lasted over two weeks, before losing them to The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers. In August 1985, he wrestled a World Wrestling Federation house show in Toronto, losing to Dino Bravo. In October 1986, he regained the Canadian International Tag Team title for the fourth time, this time with Sheik Ali. His reign would last nearly four months, before losing them to Armand Rougeau and Dan Kroffat. Two months later, he regained the titles for the fifth and final time, with Chuck Simms. He and Simms would be the final champions, as Lutte Internationale closed down in June 1987.
