Richard Paul Burgunder III, born 14 November 1979, is an American adventurer, mountaineer, and extreme sports athlete. Burgunder is a five time XTERRA Trail Run Series Regional Champion. He is also the only runner to have earned titles in four regions in XTERRA Trail Run Series history. Burgunder holds regional championship titles in New England, Ohio (2011), Pocono (2011, 2012), and Utah (2013). Burgunder won two XTERRA regional titles in 2011, making history.

Burgunder placed 33rd at 2008 XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. He was also 67th at 2009 XTERRA Trail Running World Championship and 66th at 2012 XTERRA Trail Running World Championship.

Burgunder has summited eight of the highest peaks in the contiguous United States, Japan’s Mt. Fuji and Mt. Shirane, Colorado’s Longs Peak and Pike’s Peak, New Hampshire’s Mount Washington, and Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome.

Burgunder was also a five-time Empire State Building Run Up elite invitational heat competitor (2007-2011), and he won national titles in the 20-29 age bracket at the 2008 USA Trail Marathon National Championships. Burgunder was also a top ten medalist at USA Track & Field National Championships twice. He finished 6th at 2008 USA Trail Marathon National Championships as well as 9th at 2009 50 Mile Road National Championships. Burgunder was 12th at 2008 50 Mile Road National Championships. Competitor magazine featured Burgunder as “The Dirty Half Dozen”.
