Riffel was a guest judge on The Martha Stewart Show as well as The Today Show in 2011. Riffel was also a guest judge in the second season M-Net television competition MasterChef South African. Riffel hosted 5 Sterre Met Reuben, his first Afrikaans cooking program. In it, he showed viewers how to cook five- star meals at home. He replaced Andrew Atkinson in 2014 as a permanent judge for MasterChef South Africa’s third season. Benny Masekwameng, Pete Goffe–Wood, and Riffel were part of the judging panel. Riffel hosted the third season and a Celebrity MasterChef episode in 2015. Robertsons Herbs and Spices has him as the face.   1. In the same year, his Franschhoek-based restaurant was awarded the Eat Out Restaurant of the Year Award. His restaurant was awarded the Eat Out Johnnie Walker Restaurant Award: Top 10 Restaurants in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2007, Reuben was awarded the distinguished Unilever Chef of the Year award.

Riffel saw opportunities to expand the market for his food and opened a second Reuben’s in 2009. It was located at The Robertson Small Hotel, a boutique five-star hotel in the Robertson wine region. After Maze was closed by Gordon Ramsay in Cape Town, Riffel had the opportunity to take over Maze’s restaurant at the One&Only Hotel. Reuben’s at The One&Only was established thus with Reuben as the executive chef. Riffel opened two restaurants in 2013, one at Abalone House in Paternoster, which is a five-star guesthouse. The other was Racine, a bistro-style restaurant at Chamonix Wine Estate, Franschhoek. This was where his culinary career began. Riffel believes in simplicity, bringing out all the flavours and achieving perfect balance. Riffel admitted that he had over 250 cookbooks at the time of his interview with The Wall Street Journal 2012. He continues to experiment and create delicious new dishes.
