Renate Weber, a Romanian lawyer who is also a human rights activist was born 3 August 1955. She was elected Member of the European Parliament in November 2007. She is the first Romanian to be appointed Chief of an EU Election Observation Mission. She was the Advisor on constitutional, legislative and other matters to President of Romania between 2004-2005. She is currently the People’s Advocate of Romania.

She was named Ad-hoc judge at (Strasbourg)’s European Court of Human Rights in 2000.

Renate Weber has become a member of the European Parliament in November 2007. She is a full member of the LIBE Committee and a substitute member of the AFET Committee.

In 2007, she decided to enter politics and became a member of the National Liberal Party (Partidul National Liberal).

She taught international human rights law, constitution law, and women’s rights at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (Faculty of Political Sciences) (1997-2003). She also taught classes about the protection of human right in international relations at the University of Bucharest Faculty of History (2003-2004).
