Her rising notoriety led to many labels expressing interest in signing her. Eventually a deal was established with the backing of Jimmy Iovine—chairman of Interscope Records, Randy Lennox, President and CEO of Universal Music Canada, and A&R’s Martin Kierszenbaum and Andrea Ruffalo of Cherry Tree/Interscope Records, and Mark Spicoluk of Universal Music Canada. This was the first time Universal Music Group signed a direct deal with a Canadian urban music label in 2010.
Reema’s upbringings were strongly influenced by an early passion for her emceeing and writing. Fluently speaking English and Arabic, Reema channelled her experiences and cultural influences towards honing her musical craft as a rapper and songwriter—something she expressed as coming naturally.
Reema Major released her first mixtape, Youngest in Charge, in 2009. 15 Going on 25 followed on October 2010. I Am Legend was released on May 27, 2011. Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and Big Boi from Outkast have also been performed by the young rapper. The self-described “Mother to the New Era”, also performed with DJ Toomp, The Stereotypes, Bangladesh, Rick Ross, Kwajo Cinqo, Ghetto Concept, and DJ Toomp. Wiz Khalifa has invited her to open for her two-time sold-out Rolling Papers World Tour in Toronto in September 2011. She also released her single “I’m The one” from her I Am Legend mixtape, October 12, 2011, with cameos in Miami, Florida along with Rick Ross. She collaborated with Karl Wolf in 2013 and was featured on his single “Go Your Own Way”.

Reema Major was born to a South Sudanese mom and an Emirati father. Her mother later moved to Kenya, then to Uganda, before finally settling in Canada in 1998 through the United Nations refugee program. At five years old, Reema Major was introduced to hip-hop by her cousin. She took part in cyphers from their apartment.
