They also represented west coast hip-hop against Radamiz, Hot 97’s Brooklyn-based east coast representative. The freestyle battle took place in Austin, Texas, on March 15, 2013. RedCloud’s rhyme connects to Native American hip hop, a musical genre popular with American and Canadian indigenous peoples. He also fuses traditional native musics to contemporary hip hop style and provides workshops and performances to raise the indigenous consciousness of tribal youth.

After splitting from Syntax Records in 2010, he founded the independent 1491 Nations label and released his underground mixtape, 1491 Nation Presents : MC RedCloud (2011). RedCloud redefined his music the following year with the help from DJ Hydroe and Crystle Lighting. This created a performance group known for their electro-house/hip-hop fusion, featuring RedCloud’s underground voice. Called LightningCloud, Sam Slovik of the L.A. Weekly called the crew, “a near-earth object inventing new realms of the Electro-House-Hip-Hop revolution on the planet. Crystle Lightning and MC RedCloud are L.A.’s underground Bonnie and Clyde. Their self-titled debut (2012) features an eclectic mix straight hip hop (“Burn It Down”) and the digital groove of electrohouse dance styles (e.g. “Zoom,” or “Gravitron”), hip hop-inflected French yeye (“Burn It Down”), and the digital groove of electro house dance styles (e.g. As a performer, he travels North America and is well-known for his songs that traverse the globe in terms of geography, message and experience. His collaboration LightningCloud (2012) includes the work of long- standing collaborators such as Pigeon John, DJ Wise and Greg “DJ Ei8ht” Leonti. The LightningCloud album was awarded the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in November 2012 for Best Hip Hop Album.

In 2014, RedCloud broke the Guinness World Record for freestyle rapping that was previously set at 17 hours, and he went 18 hours one minute and 14 seconds.
