Raymond Gause is one of the most popular and richest Puerto Rican basketball player who was born on February 4, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. Raymond Gause, a former Puerto Rican basketball player. He was born in Memphis and played college basketball under Gene Bartow. He played basketball with Jerome Mincy at Alabama-Birmingham and Orlando “Pipo” Marrero at the University of Puerto Rico. He established residency in Puerto Rico in 1984 after he moved to Puerto Rico. He played his first season with the Bayamon Cowboys in 1987’s Superior League, BSN. He helped Bayamon win the 1980’s championship under Robert Corn. He was also recruited by the Puerto Rican National Basketball Team in 1988 as a specialist and three-point shooter. He became the shooting guard for the next four seasons. At the 1988 Tournament of the Americas Olympic Qualifier, Montevideo, Uruguay, he helped Puerto Rico qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics.
He participated in the 1992 Tournament of the Americas, the first international tournament NBA players were permitted to participate in. This helped Puerto Rico qualify for the 1992 Summer Olympics. His last international competition participation was at the 1992 Olympics.
He led Puerto Rico to two gold medals in 1991 at the Centro Basket Tournament, Monterrey (Mexico), and the 1991 Pan American Games, Havana (Cuba), where he scored 25 points with seven three-point baskets in their gold medal match against Mexico. This is the only Pan American Games gold medal Puerto Rico Basketball has ever received.

The 6’4″ Gause, who was a 4-year International veteran, was a top-notch shooter. He averaged 42% for three-point shooting during his four-year International career. His ability to make threes in a pinch was what made his debut on the National Team, which saw the team achieve its best four-year record between 1988 and 1992.
He was a member of the 1989 World Tournament Qualifier, 1989 Tournament of the Americas in Mexico City, and helped the team win the gold medal. He led Puerto Rico to victory over Panama in the 1989 Centro Basket Tournament, Havana (Cuba). He helped Puerto Rico win a fourth place at the 1990 FIBA World Championship, Buenos Aires (Argentina). The team defeated World Powers Yugoslavia and Australia to reach the semi-finals undefeated. However, it lost its final two games to Team USA and the Soviet Union in the medal round.
