Ray Cappo, also known as Raghunath or Ray of Today, is the vocalist of Youth of Today’s hardcore punk band. He was previously a vocalist for Reflex From Pain and Shelter and for “Pour Water on It” the project recording. Cappo hails from Connecticut and was a drummer for Violent Children. Cappo and Youth of Today were already a prominent presence in New York City before they moved there in the mid-1980s.

Ray Cappo, who released Shelter’s Eternal on Good Life Recordings in 2006, embarked upon a European tour. His website features his raw food and yoga classes, as well as an email list that promotes raw foods. Cappo, along with John Porcelly (also known as Porcelly), founded the seminal hardcore group Youth of Today in 1985. It quickly became one of New York’s most popular hardcore bands. Their straight-edge ethics and fast, aggressive sound helped them create a subgenre called Youth Crew, which influenced many other bands. Kevin Seconds, the singer of 7 Seconds from Reno, Nevada was an important figure in the early days of Youth of Today. Kevin Seconds was a major influence on the band and also released the first EP “Can’t Close my Eyes” on Positive Force Records. Youth of Today had two 7″ EPs and a 12″ version later. They also released two LPs. These records are widely considered to be among the best American hardcore records of all time.

Cappo and Jordan Cooper founded Revelation Records in 1987. Warzone’s “Lower East Side Crew” was the label’s debut release. Soon after, a compilation called New York Hardcore 1987 – Together or simply the Together Compilation was released. This compilation featured tracks from Youth of Today, Bold (previously Crippled Youth). It was also the first time that bands such as Sick of it All and Gorilla Biscuits were recorded and would be heard around the globe. Revelation would soon expand its repertoire westward and release records from Californian bands like Chain of Strength or No For an Answer. Cooper moved from New Haven Connecticut to Huntington Beach in California in 1990 and Revelation is still a functional record label.
