Ravil Kashapov is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on November 15, 1956 in Uvelsky District, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia. Kashapov was born in Bolgar, Spassky District in Republic of Tatarstan, Soviet Russia, on November 15, 1956. In 1979, he graduated from Kazan Federal University of the Volga with a degree en biochemistry. At 22 years of age, he began training in athletics his third year at university. Hanif Mubarakzyanovich Murtazin was his first coach. He is an Honoured Worker in Physical Culture of Russia Federation. After seeing him playing around with friends, he convinced him to start running.

The 1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships saw him make a rare appearance. He finished 74th in long distance (12 km) race. He ran a personal best of 2:11:07 to place fourth at the 1989 World Marathon Cup, Milan. Six months later, he was second at the Chicago Marathon. He lost to Paul Davies- Hale, an Englishman, by less than two minutes. He finished second in the Fukuoka Marathon in Dec for the second consecutive year. He also competed in two IAAF events: the World Cup (4th place in the marathon) as well as the Golden Gala.

1990 was his last year competing at the world-class level, finishing 20th at the European Athletics Championships marathon event in Split.

From 1991 to 1997, Kashapov ran in various city marathons around the world, as well as occasional shorter races, with moderate success. Running out of Tampa, he finished 6th at the 1991 Houston Marathon and 3rd at the 1992 Pittsburgh Marathon.

He won the Soviet Union Championships gold medal in the marathon in 1987. This qualified him for the 1987 World Championships, in Rome, where his 8th place finish was, and the 1988 Summer Olympics, in Seoul. He finished in 10th place in the Olympic marathon, the only Soviet participant. Kashapov also won gold in the 1988 European Marathon Cup held in Huy, Belgium.

Ravil Iskhakovich Kashapov (Russian: Ravil’ Iskhakovich Kashapov; born 15 Nov 1956) is an ex-marathoner and Russian ultramarathoner. He represented the Soviet Union in the 1987 World Championships as well as the 1988 Summer Olympics.

He began competing in professional athletics events in 1981. He also started his career as a professor of sports medicine at several universities in the United States that year.

In the late 1990s, he started running ultramarathons, races ranging from 50 to 100 kilometres. His greatest success came in 1998, when he won first place at the Russian 100 km Championships in Moscow, 3rd in the IAU World 100 km Championships in Kochi, Japan, and 5th in the annual Comrades Marathon (87 km). He was the over 45 age category winner in each one.
