Ranjan Mallik is one of the most popular and richest Electrical Engineer who was born on November 15, 1964 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. R. K. Mallik was born November 1964 in Kolkata (the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal), to Radharaman Mallik & Tapati. He received a BTech degree in electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1987. He completed his higher education at the University of Southern California, where he earned an MS in electrical engineering and a PhD in 1992. He returned to India in the same year and joined Defence Electronics Research Laboratory Hyderabad as a Grade-C Scientist. There he worked for two years until he was appointed as a lecturer at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He stayed at IIT Kharagpur from 1995 to 1996, during which he was an assistant professor. He then moved to the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati to become an assistant professor. In 1998, he moved to Delhi to become a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Between 2009 and 2015, he held three IDRC Research Chairs in Wireless Communications, including the Jai Gupta Chair (2007 to 2012) and the Brigadier Bhopinder Sing Chair (2012 to 2017). As a faculty member, he is also affiliated with the Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management of IIT Delhi.
The Shanti Swarup Bhagar Prize for Science and Technology was awarded to him by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. This is one of the most prestigious Indian science awards.
In 2007, Mallik was elected a fellow of India’s National Academy of Sciences. In 2008, Mallik was awarded the Hari Om Ashram Prerit Doctor Vikram Sarabhai Research Award for electronics, telematics and automation of Physical Research Laboratory. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research also gave him the Shanti Swarup Bhagnagar Prize, which is one of the most prestigious Indian science awards. In 2011, the Indian National Science Academy made him a fellow, and the Indian Academy of Sciences did the same a year later. He was also awarded two fellowships in 2012 and 2013, the World Academy of Sciences and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. He is also an elected fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology and Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Ranjan Kumar Mallik, a 1964-born Indian electrical and communication engineer, is a professor at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s Department of Electrical Engineering. From 2007 to 2012, he held the Jai Gupta chair at IIT Delhi and the Brigadier Bhopinder Sing Chair from 2012 to 2017. He is well- known for his researches in multiple-input, multi-output systems. He was the treasurer of The Delhi Section of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. in 2005 and 2006. In 2015, he also served on IEEE Communications Society’s Awards Standing Committee. He is a founding member of the Communication Systems and Networks Association, (COMSNETS), and has helped organize several conferences. He has delivered key note or invited speeches at several conferences, including the lecture on Performance Evaluation for Wireless Communication System at National Science Day (2009), the speech on Optimal Signaling For Multi-Level Amplitude Shift Keying with Single Input Multiple Output and Noncoherent Reception at CALCON (2014) and the Alexander Graham Bell lecture at IEEE (2015).
Mallik’s researches have been in the fields of communication theory and systems, difference equations, and linear algebra and he has worked extensively on the performance analysis of multiple-input multi-output systems, especially characterization of fading channel statistics and error analysis under correlated fading conditions. He has documented his researches by way of several articles; Google Scholar and ResearchGate, online article repositories of scientific articles, have listed many of them. Besides, he has contributed chapters to books including the 2011 edition of Issues in Telecommunications Research published by ScholarlyEditions.
