She is a member of National Liberal Party (PNL) and has been a member of Romanian Chamber of Deputies Sibiu County since 2004.

Turcan’s political career has been fraught with controversy. Calin Popescu- Tariceanu was elected PNL President and Prime Minister in 2004. Her public criticisms of the party grew so much that the party sent her a warning in July

2006. She responded that she would make similar statements. The party fired her in September after she kept her word. She continued to attack Tariceanu and was a leader of a group PD-L deputies that in March 2008 requested prosecutors to investigate the prime Minister for abuse of office, corruption and attempts to impose an auto tax. (He has connections to the industry). A year later, Tariceanu declared that a united right-wing party encompassing both the PD-L & the PNL could be formed if he, along with a few others, left the PNL. She complained about Tariceanu, Olteanu, and Orban “monopolizing the party and eliminating anyone who dares to share a different point of view”. She was, however, a vocal supporter of Basescu who she noted shares the PD-L objectives and whose suspension she described as “a serious abuse”. She predicted that Crin Antonescu, the former leader of the PNL, would lose to Basescu in the 2009 elections and pointed out that the party could be marginalized if it continues its anti-Basescu strategy. Turcan supports the modification of the Constitution to increase presidential powers beyond those in a consolidated semipresidential system.

Born in Botosani, she was the daughter of Maria-Margareta Tatarcan and Dumitru Tatarcan. Her father is a high school principal. She graduated in 1999 from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies’ Faculty of International Economic Relations. From 1996 to 1999 she was also enrolled in the Moscow Pushkin Institute, where she earned a business Russian degree. She began her master’s in political marketing at Bucharest’s National School of Administration and Political Science. In the same year, she started a doctorate at Transylvania University of Brasov. She also studied in Austria and the United States. She worked as a public relation consultant for Tofan Grup (an automobile tire distributor) from 1999 to 2000. From 2000 to 2004, she was a parliamentary expert in Romania. She also served as an associate professor at Transylvania University, and the Romanian-German University Sibiu from 2000 to 2006.

Tatarcan started her political career as an advisor to the President of the National Council of the National Liberal Party. She was elected to Parliament in 2000 as an adviser to President Theodor Stolojan of PNL. This position she held until 2004. She was elected to Parliament that year and joined the PNL’s national leadership board, where she remained until 2006. After being expelled from the PNL, she joined the national leadership council of the PNL. She was there until 2006. After being ejected from the PNL, she joined the Stolojan- founded Liberal Democratic Party (PLD) as vice president. This was between March 2007 and December 2007. She has been a member of several committees while in the Chamber. Since 2008, she was twice president of the Committee on Culture, Arts and Mass Media (2005, 2006; 2008). She finished second in her district at the 2012 election. However, she was able to win another term thanks to the redistribution system specified in the electoral law. Turcan was elected interim leader of the PNL after the loss of the 2016 elections and the resignation by its president Alina Gorghiu. After the vacancy created by the incarceration and resignation of Liviu Dragnea, Turcan ran for Chamber President in May 2019. She lost to Marcel Ciolacu.
