Ralph Remington was born January 2, 1963 in Philadelphia (PA) and is an American theater producer. He is also an actor, director, writer, funder, and former politician. On June 1, 2016, Ralph was appointed Deputy Director of Arts and Culture in the City, Tempe, Arizona. As the Tempe Center for the Arts’ artistic director, he also has artistic responsibility. Remington was the former Western Regional Director/Assistant Director of Actors Equity Association. He was appointed Director of Theater and Musical Theater for the National Endowment for the Arts in 2010. He currently lives in Tempe, Arizona. Remington has written seven feature screenplays as well as two plays.

Mr. Remington founded Pillsbury House Theatre out of the settlement house tradition of community collaboration. He served as Pillsbury’s producing artistic director, managing a $500,000 budget. He also selected and oversaw a four-to-six play annual series; founded Breaking Ice, a touring multiracial, socio-political improv company for youth and adults; and created the Chicago Avenue Project where children write and perform original plays with professional actors. The program received a Coming Up Taller award in 2005. Presented by the First Lady Laura Bush on behalf of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, Coming Up Taller awards recognize outstanding community arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America’s young people. In addition, Ralph has directed at Intermedia Arts, Painted Bride Art Center, The Southern Theater and Walker Art Center.
He is founding producing artistic director of Pillsbury House Theatre, in Minneapolis Minnesota where he was also an elected member of the Minneapolis City Council. He served one term from 2005 through 2009. Ralph Remington is a US Army Veteran, certified AIDS/HIV educator, union member and former International Brotherhood of Teamsters organizer. He is currently a member of Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and Actors’ Equity Association (AEA).
In 1988, Ralph married Andrea Moseler, a German designer. They split in 1991. Since 2000, Ralph has been married to Mary Remington. He is the father of Bridget and Brianna, his stepdaughters. As an actor and screenwriter, Remington also lived in New York City and Santa Monica, California.

Ralph was born in West Philadelphia. Ralph and Sadie Satterthwaite are his parents. He is the younger brother of Kristoffer and Eric Satterthwaite. Anderson Elementary School, Julia R. Masterman School, and Turner Middle School were his schools. Before he left for The Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in his second year, he was also a student of Central High School (Philadelphia). Ralph Remington was a member the first graduating class at The Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in 1980. He served as President for two years of the Student Council. He was a dance minor and a drama major. At Philadanco, he studied Modern, Tap, Jazz, and Jazz. Ralph was a TV moderator/host during high school for the ABC-TV affiliate WPVI-TV, Philadelphia. After joining the acting unions of the 1980s, Ralph’s professional name was changed from Satterthwaite and he became Remington. He was first to act under an Equity contract in Soulful Scream Of A Chosen Son, a play written by Ned Eisenberg at The Philadelphia Festival Theater For New Plays. He was an actor in Thunder in the Light while he lived in New York City. It was directed by Remi Bosseau at The Whole Theatre and artistic director Olympia Dukakis.
Remington received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Howard University. He then enlisted in US Army. At Fort Jackson, Remington completed basic training. After completing Basic Training at Fort Jackson, he was sent to Fort Gordon’s Communications School in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Fort Gordon and was then assigned to McNair Kaserne 32nd signal battalion, Frankfurt, Germany. Under the command of General Colin Powell, he was stationed at V Corps. For two and a quarter years, he lived in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1988, he was awarded an honorable discharge.
In the spring of 2002, Remington directed a production of Amiri Baraka’s Dutchman at the Source Theater in Washington.
