It was also Groupon’s entry to Europe. It was a startup that was funded by Rocket Internet, the Samwer brothers and Holtzbrinck Ventures, which Ruparell joined in its early stages of development. Groupon bought the company in 2010, only five months after it was launched. Although no figures have been released, it was reported that Citydeal was sold for between $100M and $300M USD. Citydeal had 600 employees and a presence in over 80 cities across 16 countries at the time of acquisition. Ruparell and his cofounders moved to Chicago in 2011 to lead growth in Groupon’s North American business. The board charged him with the founding of Groupon Goods. This is a diversification from Groupon’s core business. Groupon Goods had a total billing of almost $1.5 billion USD at the time Ruparell announced his departure.

Ruparell is the founder of Endy. It was sold to Sleep Country in October 2018. He was also a co-founder of Groupon International through the acquisition of Citydeal, his company. This was Groupon’s largest acquisition. In 2017, Ruparell was interviewed by Larry King and named one of the “Best Young Entrepreneurs” in the world.
