Raisa Bogatyrova is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 6, 1953 in Bakal, Russia, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia. Bogatyrova was a child of workers, and was born in Bakal, Chelyabinsk Oblast on January 6, 1953. According to Eastern Orthodox Christianity, she was born on Christmas Eve. Her father is Vasyl Petrovych Laktionov (1912-1985), and her mother is Hanna Markivna Laktionova (1892). Raisa is the older sister of Valentyna (born 1918) and Vira (born 1992). According to her website, her family hails from Protopopivka in Kharkiv Oblast. Bohatyriova stated that her ancestors were from Sloboda Ukraine.

Bohatyriova was married to her husband in 1975. Ihor Oleksandrovych, her husband at the time, was a student at Kharkiv Aviation Institute. Bogatyrova sympathizes with Margaret Thatcher. She also reads Anton Chekhov and Winston Churchill.

In 1997–2003, Bogatyrova was the Secretary of the Supervisory Board at the National Fund of Social Protection for Mothers and Children Ukraine to Children.

In July 2000 Bohatyriova was again elected to the parliament now as a member of the Christian Democratic Party of Ukraine. She left her faction once she became a people’s deputy and was unaffiliated until March 2001. In March 2001 Bohatyrova joined the Regions of Ukraine group and in November its faction. In April 2002 she was re-elected by the United Ukraine block as the leader of the Party of Regions. Bohatyriova was re-elected once again in April 2006 as the Party of Regions member placing sixth on the party list. From July 2006 until February 2007 she was a member of the Budget Committee.

Bogatyrova was enrolled in the Luhansk Medical Institute in 1971. She graduated with distinction from Kharkiv Medical Institute in 1977 and received a doctorate qualification. The Kiev University in 1996 awarded her a doctorate degree, specialising in Jurisprudence. In 1996, she defended her candidate dissertation Optimal System of Mass-Ultrasound Screening of Pregnants at the Kharkiv Medical University. Bogatyriova presented her doctorate dissertation, Role of Inborn Pathology and Inherited Pathology for Reproductive Losses in a Family, in 2000.

She is a former Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Bogatyrova was a People’s deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, (parliament), for the Communist, Christian Democratic Party of Ukraine, and, more recently, the Party of Regions.

Later, she claimed that her aunt still resides in Kharkiv Oblast. Bohatyriova then mentions her grandma, whom she has never seen but whose face she still carries in her (Bohatyriova’s website). Raisa is 13 years younger than her oldest sister. Bohatyriova refers to 1970 as the proletarian year and the year of hardship.

Bohatyriova was a member of the Communist Party of Soviet Union and a member of the organizational committee in the creation of the Socialist Party of Ukraine. She was elected to the Verkhovna Rada by the members of the Kramatorsk city hospital as a people’s deputy, a duty of which she accepted on May 15, 1990. On her website Bohatyriova claims that during her initial experience in the Verkhovna Rada let her to get a real sense of the Ukrainian language. In March 1994 Bohatyriova was not re-elected, yet was appointed as a Deputy of Minister of Health Security. She made a career in this position working her way up to be appointed as a Minister of the portfolio on January 27, 1999. On January 12, 2000 Bohatyriova was deposed as a Minister of Health Security when the Prime Minister of Ukraine was appointed Viktor Yushchenko, however in few months she was appointed as a science adviser to the President of Ukraine.
