Rain Sultanov is one of the most popular and richest Jazz Musician who was born on April 29, 1965 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rain Sultanov was conceived in Baku on April 29, 1965. His brothers Rauf, Ramin and Ramin are musicians. Rain, at the age of 14, entered a clarinet school. His brothers advised him. Rain’s love for jazz music, and in particular the creativity of Miles Davis and “Weather Report”, is tied to this period. Rain learned the saxophone at the age of 16. While serving in the army for four years, he played in military orchestra. Rain Sultanov, who was continuing his musical education at Baku Musical School named in A.Zeynalli’s honor, won the Republican Contest for specialized schools. Tchaikovsky and Mozart were some of his compositions. Weber was also among them. Rain was already performing jazz compositions at that point and was invited by Polad Bulbuloglu to join the “Ashiqlar”, a band that also experiments with jazz music.

Rain Sultanov completed his album “Tale Of My Land” in 2008. He worked on it for two years. Rain called the project album-book because it has forty pages and includes photos. The album is intended to last three hours and consists of two discs. The first disc contains music, while the second disc features a 17-minute film that was made by Azerbaijani film directors and Turkish filmmakers. Rain Sultanov is interviewed in the first half of the album. The second half of the album features music by the jazzman, set against photos in the disc. These photos include children, old men, and refugees. The third section is mini-clip. Its main theme is war and the tragedies that war brings with it.

Rain joined the German jazz festivals from 1996 to 1997. Rain composed compositions such as “Last moment”, and “Crazy World” while he was in Germany. After returning to his homeland, he created a group called “Syndicate”. Rain’s older brother Rauf Sultanov, Eldar Rzaguluzade on piano, Hamdulla Gfari (guitar), and Vagif Aliyev were all members of this group. From July 14-15, 1997, the first solo concerts “Last Moment” of “Syndicate” were held. “Syndicate” was able to achieve great success in a short time with its original compositions. Rain Sultanov played “standards” Miles Davis and John Coltrane in many jazz clubs in Baku and Germany between 1997 and 1998. The “Syndicate” group was invited to the 1998 Novosibirsk international jazz festival. They performed at jam sessions alongside such jazzmen as Curtis Fuller, Adam Rogers (guitar), Donny Mccaslin (saxophone), and many others. The group “Syndicate”, already well-known, released “Last Moment” its first compact disc in January 1999. Rain released “Mugham-Meqam”, a solo album that showcased his mastery in performance and composer skills. It was a huge success both in the homeland and in other countries. The top ten radio stations in Baku ranked compositions from this album, and they were the most popular among listeners to Russkoe Radio in Israel.
