Raihan Akhter Banu, the daughter of Late Rowshan Ara (Naogaon District) and Late Abdur Rahman Mondal was born in ‘Chalkdev Para. She passed her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam at the Central Girls’ High School in Naogaon, Rajshahi Board. She took the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), examination at Naogaon Govt. BMC Women’s College. Raihan Akhter Bangu Roni earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Rajshahi University. Her father was a well-known person in the area. Her paternal uncle Late Khan Mohammad Basir Uddin Mondal, a politician in the former All-India Muslim League as well as the Pakistan Muslim League was her paternal uncle. Late Zarif Modal, her paternal grandfather, was a landlord in the district and a wealthy person. Late Mokhlesur Rahman Raja, her elder brother, was a veteran freedom fighter in Bangladesh Liberation War. He was also a former leader for Jatiyo Samajtrantic Dal(JSD) (after 1974 to 1984).
Mrs. Raihan Akhter Bangu took a long break from politics after Bangladesh gained independence. In 1972, she completed her bachelor of arts at Rajshahi University. She was the mother of two boys and one girl. She raised her children for almost 20 years. In late 1990, she began her political career.

Raihan Akhter (Nickname: Roni, Bengali: raay’haan aakhtaar banu – born 11 January 1952) was an ex Member of Parliament and a active leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). As a student leader in the East Pakistan Student League, now known as Bangladesh Chhatra League (baaNlaadesh chaatr liig), she began her political career. She was an organizer and actively participated in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. In the 8th Parliament, she was elected as a member (Member of Jatiyo Sangshad), a member of Bangladesh’s parliament. She is both a 20th-century woman politician and a 21st century female politician. She started her political career in 1969, and was elected to the Parliament in 2004.
