Freier was the fifth child in a Hasidic Jewish Jewish family and was born in Brooklyn. She attended the Bais Yaakov highschool in Borough Park and took a course on legal stenography. In 1982, she graduated high school. She married David Freier at age 19, and they have three sons, three daughters, and two more.
Freier began her career as a legal secretary and then, in 1994 as a paralegal at Willkie Farr & Gallagher. This was to help support her husband in kollel. Her husband completed an accounting degree at Touro College. In 1996, she decided to continue her college education. After realizing that she was being employed by younger lawyers than her, she began to study law when she was 30.
She then entered Brooklyn Law School, completing her degree in four years, graduating in June 2005. She passed the New York State Bar in 2006.
