R. Andrew Lee earned a BM degree in piano performance at Truman State University in 2004. He studied under Dr. David McKamie. He received a BM in piano performance from the University of Missouri Kansas City. There he met David McIntire who would later help him launch Irritable Hedgehog Music. McIntire is the one who introduced Lee to William Duckworth’s The Time Curve Preludes. This sparked his interest for minimalist music. Lee was awarded his MM in 2006, and his DMA in 2011. Both were received from the UMKC.
R. Andrew Lee started his career in January 2009 as an Artist-in-Residence at Avila College in Kansas City, Missouri. His first album, Tom Johnson: An hour for piano, was released by Irritable Hedgehog Music on 30 October 2010. This was also the first Irritable Hedgehog release. It was the first recording of An Hour for piano to last exactly one hour.
