Many of Meillassoux’s articles have been published in English through the British philosophical journal Collapse. This has helped to generate interest in his work in Anglophone countries. After Finitude notes that his unpublished dissertation L’inexistence divine (1997) was “forthcoming” as a book. It had not been published in 2016. Nathan Brown translated a portion of Meillassoux’s dissertation in Parrhesia in 2016. He noted in his introduction that “what’s striking about the document…is the marked difference in its rhetorical strategies and its order of reasons” from After Finitude. This counters the common view that the latter only constituted “a partial precis of L’inexistence divina”. Brown also notes that the dissertation offers a “very different articulation” of the Principles of Factiality from the one in After Finitude
Meillassoux was a former student and colleague of Alain Badiou [fr] & Bernard Bourgeois. Badiou wrote the foreword to Meillassoux’s first book After Finitude. (Apres la finitude 2006). He describes the book as an entirely new approach to modern philosophy that is different from Immanuel Kants’ three options of criticism, skepticism and dogmatism. Ray Brassier translated the book into English. Meillassoux is closely associated with the speculative realist movement.
