Pyone Cho is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 2, 1966 in Yangon, Myanmar. Pyone Cho (Burmese pronunciation: puN:khiu); born HtayWin Aung, 2 April 1966; currently serving as a Member of the Parliament (MP), in the House of Representatives of Dawbon Township. He is an internationally respected human rights activist, and a former student leader in the 8888 Uprising of Myanmar.

On 13 January 2012, he was released as part of a mass presidential pardon of political prisoners with nearly 600 other political prisoners. He spent 20 years of his adult life in prison and was considered a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International.

Pyone Cho was elected for a parliamentary seat in the lower house (Pyithu Hluttaw)’s Dawbon constituency in the 2015 general election, representing the National League for Democracy. He is the first student leader of the 88 Generation Students Group to be elected into the Burmese Parliament.

He founded the 88 Generation Students Group with Min Ko Naing and Ko Ko Gyi. He was taken into custody along with Min Ko Naing and Ko Ko Gyi, Htay KYwe, and Min Zeya on 29 September 2006. They were accused of pro-democracy activities including the White Sunday Campaign which began in early 2006. On 11 January 2007, he was released.

Pyone Cho, before becoming a member the Burmese parliament, was one of the leaders of the 88 Generation Students Group. This political and human rights group in Myanmar consists of democracy activists from the 1988 Uprising and the 1996/1998 student democracy movement as well as other younger activists.

Pyone Cho was detained in December 1989. He was sent to Insein prison because he was involved in the 8888 Uprising. He was held for almost two years without being tried and sentenced to seven year imprisonment in December 1991. He signed, along with 23 others, a 1995 letter to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights abuses within prison. He was also accused in organizing, writing and distributing a newsletter that included poetry, sketches, stories, and other prisoner content. In 1996, the military government increased his sentence by seven years. This was due to the fact that political prisoners were not allowed to read or write and they were prohibited from having pencils or pens in their possession. In November 2003, he was finally released.

In August 2007, he and other activists marched to protest against high fuel prices. The protests led to the Saffron Revolution, the largest demonstrations against the military government since 1988. On 22 August 2007, he and other prominent activists were rearrested. He was detained in prison without trial for more than a year until August 2008. On 11 November, he was sentenced to 65 years in prison.
