He is more well-known as Preston. In 2006, he was fourth on the reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother. He began a songwriting career after The Ordinary Boys split up in 2008. He reunited The Ordinary Boys in 2013 and released their self-titled album in 2015.

Preston was a guest panellist for the comedy game show Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Season 20, Episode 3) in January 2007. Preston walked out of the studio after the recording was completed. He was offended at Simon Amstell’s jokes about Houghton, who had read excerpts from Chantelle’s autobiography. After the incident, he said that Simon Amstell did not write jokes and called him a “snotty little push boy” in an interview with NME. Later, he regretted his decision and told the BBC that he couldn’t understand why a stranger would act like this. Preston spoke out about Amstell and said that he was “funny. Charming. And likeable. Which made it [walking away] even more embarrassing.”

Preston became the lead singer of Worthing-based pop group, The Ordinary Boys. They had a string of top-ten hits in the UK Singles Chart. Their most famous song, “Boys Will Be Boys”, featured in the 2007 film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Preston moved to Philadelphia in 2008, where he lived for 3 years. He had American citizenship from his mother’s side of the family.
