Prakash Javadekar is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 30, 1951 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Prakash Keshav Javadekar, born 30 January 1951, is an Indian politician. He is a member the Bharatiya Janata Party, and currently serves as the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Minister in Information and Broadcasting, and Minister in Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

In 2008, he was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra and re- elected in 2014 from Madhya Pradesh.

Between May to November 2014, he was also Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting. After taking charge of his ministry, Javadekar notably said that “the media itself suffices for self-regulation. Institutions are important for the functioning of democracy and priorities would be worked out after due consultation with the stakeholders”.

Following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014 Indian General Election, he was appointed Minister State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forests and Climate Change by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was also appointed as a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. He led the Indian delegation to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

He was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra in 2008. In 2014, he was re-elected as a Madhya Pradesh Member of Parliament.

Javadekar, who was active in politics from his college days, was a member ABVP, the student union. Javadekar was a student activist against the government during the Emergency declared between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Javadekar led a non-violent satyagraha movement in Pune during this time and was later arrested for several months.

He was the National Secretary, then General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 1984 to 1990. He was elected State Secretary and Campaign Chief for the Bharatiya Janata Party of Maharashtra in 1989. This position he held until 1995. Javadekar was elected to serve as the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s Chairman between 1990 and 2002. Javadekar also held the office of Executive President of State Planning Board, and later Chairman of Task Force on IT in Government of Maharashtra.

On 31 May 2012, based on Javadekar’s complaints about various irregularities in coal mining, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) directed a CBI enquiry. He said,”We have made a formal complaint to CVC because there were so many glaring lacunae which needed to be probed. If the inquiry has been ordered, it’s good.”
