He is an American former basketball player. He played 10 seasons in National Basketball Association (NBA). The Minnesota Timberwolves selected him in the first round in 1989 NBA draft. This was his first draft pick in franchise history. During his 10-year NBA career, 1989-1999, he would also play for both the Indiana Pacers (now the Los Angeles Clippers) and the Los Angeles Clippers (now known as the Los Angeles Clippers).

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected the 6-foot-1-inch (1.85m) point guard with the tenth overall selection of the 1989 NBA draft from UCLA. He was their first draft pick and played for them the first three seasons. He was traded to the Indiana Pacers along with Sam Mitchell during the 1992 offseason in exchange for Chuck Person, Micheal Williams and Micheal Wilkins. The Pacers traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers in 1994 along with Malik Sealy, Eric Piatkowski and 1994 draft pick Eric Piatkowski for Mark Jackson and Greg Minor’s draft rights.

Richardson was a college basketball player for the UCLA Bruins between 1985 and 1989. He was a three-time Pac-10 first-team selection (now the Pac-12) and set school records for assists as well as three-point field goal percentage.
