His group is also responsible for the development of the coupled-cluster computer codes incorporated in the widely used GAMESS (US) package.

Piecuch studied chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Wrocław, Poland. He received his M.S. degree in 1983 and Ph.D. degree in 1988.
