He was born at the Victorian town of Yallourn. At the age of three his father, who was pharmacist, relocated his family into Wewak, a New Guinean town of Wewak which was where he managed an in-town pharmacy. In an interview in 2000, Homann said of his childhood in the town:

In the 1996 Atlanta Games, he was awarded a gold medal at the Mixed 20k Bicycle CP Div 4 race and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia and silver in the Mixed Time Trial of 5,000 meters Bicycle CP Division 4 event. At the world championships in 1998 in the world championships, he broke 2 world records for the 3,000m individual pursuit and kilometre-long time trial. He also took home his race. In the 2000 Sydney Games, he received a gold medal for the Mixed Bicycle Road Race CP Div 4 event, as well as bronze medals for the Mixed Bicycle Time Trial CP Div 4 event. In the same year, he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal.

Homann’s debut international competition took place at the European championships, where he was awarded the gold and silver medals. The year 1995 was the time he was the winner of the European Championships, and was also a finalist in Paralympian of the Year.

Peter David Homann, OAM (born 16 February 1960) is an ex- Australian Paralympic cyclist. He was awarded seven medals in three Games between 1996 and 2004.

He relocated to Melbourne to complete his university degree and high school after which he stayed in England in the United Kingdom for four years during which time he started cycling on a regular basis. He continued his cycling after the time came to return to Australia and was also keen on Barcelona in

  1. Barcelona Paralympics.

At the 2004 Athens Games in the Men’s Team Sprint LC1-4/CP 3/4 event, cycling team captain Christopher Scott relinquished his place in the team in the finals so that Homann could get a chance to win a gold medal at his last Paralympics; the Australian team won the event so he received the gold medal along with Scott and the rest of the team. In a 2008 interview, Scott said of this action: “I already had my gold medal. It’s what you do in a team. Peter deserved his chance on the podium.”Homann also won two silver medals in the Men’s Road Race / Time Trial Bicycle CP Div 4 and Men’s Individual Pursuit Bicycle CP Div 4 events at the 2004 Games. In 2008, he was inducted into the International Paralympic Committee Paralympic Hall of Fame. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder in 1997 and 1999.
