Peter Baumann is one of the most popular and richest German composer who was born on January 29, 1953 in Berlin, Germany. Peter Baumann was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1953. His father was composed music, and his mom an actor. When he was just eight years old years old, his family moved to Berlin, where the Berlin Wall was built, and Baumann began attending an American/German community school in Berlin in which he was taught English and was introduced to American culture. When he was 14 Peter was a member of a cover group and was a performer in G.I. clubs. In 1971, aged 18 he got to know Christopher Franke, and ended being a member of Tangerine Dream as a replacement for their previous organist Steve Schroyder.

In the 1980s, he established an independent record label, Private Music, specializing in instrumental music, a style often referred to as new age. The artists who signed with this label include Yanni, Patrick O’Hearn, Jerry Goodman, Suzanne Ciani and the bandmates of Tangerine Dream. In 1996 the label was purchased by Windham Hill Records’ parent BMG. BMG which continues to release a portion of the older catalogs of its most popular artists.

In 2001, a musician/technician called Peter Baumann was credited with audio engineering work on Landing’s EP Oceanless, and has since become a group member, rounding out the quintet for 2005’s Brocade. However this is a different, much younger and unrelated Peter Baumann.

Following his music career, Peter Baumann moved to San Francisco, where in 2009 he founded the Baumann Foundation: a think-tank that explores the experience of being human in the context of cognitive science, evolutionary theory and philosophy. The foundation pursues its fundamental mission, to foster greater clarity about the human condition, by organizing initiatives that facilitate scientific research and promote discussions between scientists, contemplatives, and the public. The Baumann Foundation’s main initiative is Beinghuman.org, a social website designed to spark a global conversation about how current developments in fields like behavioral economics, cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, genetics, anthropology, and philosophy can help people make sense of their experiences.

A 1978 album titled Baumann or Koek is often considered to be an Peter Baumann collaboration, as the album is German and the music is that is similar to the earlier 1970s Tangerine Dream and contains a track dubbed the TD-Mem. But the album was composed by two musicians named Wolfgang Baumann and Eta Koek however it is not affiliated to Peter Baumann.

Peter Baumann (born 29 January 1953) formed the core group of the groundbreaking German electronic band Tangerine Dream with Edgar Froese and Christopher Franke in the year 1971. Baumann recorded his first solo album in the year 1976 when he was still touring with the group. Baumann has been married to Alison Baumann since 1983, and has three children. He is the director of several real estate and natural resource companies. In addition to creating the Baumann foundation, he is on the board of directors of the California Institute of Integral Studies and is a fellow of the Mind and Life Institute.
