In 2008, during the Spanish general election, the candidate was second- highest-ranked candidate for Convergence and Union to the Congress of Deputies for Barcelona The last two candidates were Josep Antoni Duran as well as Lleida. He was again elected deputy in the Spanish general elections in 2011.

From 1995 to July 1996, he served as the president of the Catalan Association of Municipalities and Comarques.

The year 1995 was the time that Macias headed the the list of candidates for the demarcation of Girona in the election of in the Parliament of Catalonia, and was appointed as deputy for the Parliament of Catalonia. Macias was appointed Councillor of the Medium Ambient as well as House of the Generality of Catalonia, substituting for Albert Vilalta and Gonzalez in the government’s restructuring that took place on July 7 the 7th of June, 1996. He was in office through July 30, 1997 which was when he became his position on the Council of Territorial Politics and Public Works as a replacement for Artur Mas. The office he held until November 21, 2001, when he was replaced by Felip Puig.

On October 14, 2015 he announced that he left the political office to work for renewal to the party.
