Between 1999 and the year 2005 Amundsen was a member of various posts within the Harstad municipal council. Since 2005, he’s been a member of the Parliament from Troms. While in Parliament, he was an active participant in the Standing Committee on Local Government and Public Administration. The year 2011 saw Amundsen was promoted from the position of Spokesperson for his party for Immigration Issues and Spokesperson on Energy Issues. After the 2013 parliamentary elections, Amundsen, located 2nd on the list of party members was disqualified from his seat due to the re-districting of Troms county. Amundsen was later appointed as state secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation under the new government that was headed by Erna Solberg.
He was married on 11 July 2009 to Gry-Anette Rekanes-Amundsen, herself a local Telemark Progress Party politician. They divide their time between Oslo and their rural estate in Flåbygd in Telemark. In addition, they own a house together in Harstad.
He supported the proposal of a ban on burqa and niqab in public spaces which was proposed by his party in 2010. He stated that “we don’t accept this type of clothing [which is] oppressive to women, and what they represent”. The same year, Amundsen also proposed to put the immigration policy up for a referendum, and proposed a halt of immigration to Oslo in the wake of increased segregation and soon-to-become immigrant majority areas, which he said would turn integration impossible.
Amundsen was a member of the Progressive Party’s Youth at the age of fourteen years old. He was the chairman of the Harstad chapter between 1986 until 1990, the year that was and also of the Troms chapter. Per-Willy Trudvang Amundsen (born 21 January 1971) is a Norwegian politician from the Progress Party who served as Minister of Justice from December 2016 until January 2018. He was also the state secretary within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development until 2013, and was a member of Troms as a member of the Norwegian Parliament from 2005 until 2013.
He was a student at Kanebogen elementary school and graduated in 1984. He then began his studies at Harstad Secondary school. He graduated in 1987. Then he attended Heggen Upper Secondary School between 1987 between 1987 and 1990. When he finished school and being drafted into in the Norwegian Army, serving his tour with the Signal Battalion in Bardufoss. When he was discharged, he attended the Norwegian School of Economics, graduating in 1995 with an economics degree. The year 1999 was the time he was awarded an information technology degree in the Sor-Trondelag University College. He completed the Military training in leadership in Home Guard. Home Guard.
Before the 2005 election, he stated as his wishes to work in the background within the Standing Committee on Business and Industry or the Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment. By the latter part of his 2005–2009 term as Member of Parliament, he however rather came to be mostly notable for his views and proposals on immigration issues. While he formerly favoured Norwegian membership of the European Union, he has since the late 2000s turned to oppose membership. He has stated that his political rolemodel is Margaret Thatcher..
