When he returned into the business world in Zed co-founded a highly popular public policy and advisory firm situated in Ottawa, Summa Strategies Canada Inc. It was also serving as its president for eight years. He represented several of the biggest American and Canadian corporations and CEO’s, with headquarters at Ottawa, Washington and London.

In 2008 he was appointed National Co-Chair for the Liberal Party of Canada leadership campaign of Michael Ignatieff and subsequently he was named Chief of Staff and Chief Strategist to the Ignatieff while he was Leader of the Opposition.

In September 2009 he was appointed Chairman of the President’s Advisory Board for Cisco Systems Canada with head offices in Toronto.

In 1996, the Prime Secretary Jean Chretien named Zed the Parliamentary Secretary to the leader of the government.

He also served as a lecturer of Contract Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa from 1982 until 1984. He was then a partner in the senior division of Clark Drummie & Company working in the areas of commercial, corporate and securities law. In 1993, he became the his first time elected to his first seat in the House of Commons in Ottawa as the MP to represent the district in Fundy Royal, New Brunswick. Zed was the youngest and the only Liberal ever elected to Parliament in the history of the riding.

Upon re-election to Parliament in 2004, Zed was named Chair of the Committee on Public Safety and National Security reviewing the Anti-terrorism Act and also served on the Standing Committees on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, and the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities serving as Official Opposition Critic.
