Paul Tighe (born 12 February 1958) is an Irish prelate of the Catholic Church. He is the secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture since his appointment on October 28th, 2017. He is the highest-ranking Irishman of the Roman Curia together with bishop Brian Farrell. He was ordained as a bishop on February 27, 2016. He was previously the adjunct secretary of the dicastery since December 2015 and was Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications since the 30th November 2007. Prior to that, he served as Director of the Office for Public Affairs for the Dublin diocese.
On the 9th of July, 2014, Tighe was appointed secretary of the Committee for Vatican media, an enlightened commission led by Lord Patten of Barnes to suggest ways to revamp the Vatican’s communications efforts. Following the conclusion of the committee’s activities, Tighe presented its findings in front of Pope Francis and the Council of Cardinal Advisers.
In 2017 Bishop Tighe spoke of the Church as a recognisable brand while participating on a panel with other spokespersons for Catholic organizations titled “Compassionate Disruption” at the annual South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. The panel was one of the festival’s first attempts to consider the role of faith in secular discussions.
On November 30, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and a deputy to the President and archbishop Claudio Maria Celli.

Tighe was born in Navan, County Meath. The man completed his studies at University College Dublin in 1979 with the BCL diploma in Law. After completing the requirements for priesthood at Holy Cross College in Clonliffe as well as at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome and was ordained as a priest in the Dublin archdiocese at St. Laurence O’Toole Church in Kilmacud in 1983. His first assignment was as priest and chaplain in Ballyfermot. In the following years, he was studying Moral Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Since 1990, he’s been an instructor in Moral Theology at the Mater Dei Institute of Education in Dublin. He was appointed the head of the department of Theology there in the year 2000.
The year 2004 saw him appointed Director for his Communications Office of the diocese of Dublin. He set up the Office for Public Affairs, which assists in communication between the diocese and the government public bodies, and non- governmental organisations in Ireland in addition to Europe.
On 19 December 2015 Pope Francis appointed Tighe Adjunct Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture and Titular Bishop of Drivastum. He was consecrated as a bishop on 27 February 2016 by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See. He was promoted to Secretary on 28 October 2017.
