Emmel was second base umpire in the event that Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter in Comerica Park against the Milwaukee Brewers on June 12th the 12th of June, 2007. A few days before Verlander’s no-hitter Emmel was also on second base in a match with two teams: the Boston Red Sox along with Oakland Athletics. Oakland Athletics in which Boston pitcher Curt Schilling was the no-hitter, up to the point that Shannon Stewart broke up the no-hitter with a single two outs in the ninth 9th inning.

On May 8, 2012, Emmel was the plate umpire for Josh Hamilton’s four-homer game.

On June 23, 2016, Emmel suffered a scalp laceration requiring stitches after being struck by an errant bat, which slipped from the grasp of Los Angeles Angels’ pinch hitter Jefry Marte during a swinging strike, in a game between the Angels and the Oakland Athletics.

Emmel has been an umpire for at two All-Star Games (2002, 2013) and two Wild Card Games (2014, 2015) as well as Eight Division Series (2002, 2003 2006, 2008 2009, 2010 2012 2013) and three League Championship Series (2007, 2014 2015) and 2014 World Series; and the 2013 World Series. Emmel has also officiated at two World Baseball Classics (2009, 2013).
