Patrick James Nielsen Hayden (born Patrick James Hayden January 2 1959, in Lansing, Michigan), is an American science fiction editor fan, fanzine editor, fanzine fan writer, reviewer, essayist blogger, anthologist, and teacher. He is an World Fantasy Award and Hugo Award winner (with nine nominations for the award) He is also an editor as well as the Manager for Science Fiction at Tor Books. His last name was changed in 1979 to “Nielsen Hayden” on his wedding with Teresa Nielsen (now Teresa Nielsen Hayden) in 1979.

He was involved in the Usenet group rec.arts.sf. * during the early 1990s. Since July 2000 , he has written his blog Electrolite before it got integrated to his wife’s site Making Light in May 2005 which is where he writes alongside her, along with Viable Paradise co-teacher, SF writer James D. Macdonald, as well as SF fanatics Avram Grumer as well as Abi Sutherland.
