The appointment was made by the President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, Barbizet served as the president of the Investment Committee of the EUR20 billion Strategic Investment Fund (a subsidiary of the Caisse of Consignments and Depots) from 2008 until 2013. She was named as chairperson for the French High Committee on Corporate Governance (HCGE).

In 2017, Barbizet left Artemis after nearly 30 years.

In 1989 Barbizet was a member of her position with Pinault Group as Chief Financial Officer. She was then appointed Director-General Deputy for Finance and Communications of the Pinault-CFAO (1990) before being appointed Managing Director at Groupe Artemis, the investment company owned by the Pinault family. In this capacity, she served as Vice President of the Board of Kering (formerly Pinault-Printemps-Redoute), the world Number 3 in the luxury goods sector, Chairman of Christie’s International PLC and she served on the boards of several of the Group’s companies (Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent). From 2014 to 2016, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Christie’s following the resignation of Steven P. Murphy stepped off the board in 2014.
