Pat Meehan is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 20, 1955 in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, United States. Patrick Leo Meehan (born October 20th 1955) is an ex- American lawyer and politician. He was an Republican Member of the United States House of Representatives and represented the 7th district of Pennsylvania’s Congress . His first election was in the year 2010, and left his seat in the year 2018. The district encompasses areas from Delaware County, Chester, Montgomery County, Berks, and Lancaster. He was succeeded by Democrat Joe Sestak, who unsuccessfully ran to Senate in the United States Senate.
Meehan was appointed his position as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on September 17th, 2001, six days after September 11 attacks. He was named to the post by president George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate. Meehan led an office of more than 200 lawyers and staff , backed by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as well as The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as well as ATF, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Office. In his capacity as U.S. Attorney, Meehan established terrorism, gang-related crimes and child safety on the internet and public corruption the top priorities of the criminal department. The public corruption of Philadelphia specifically was exposed in 2003 after an FBI computer-generated listening system was discovered in the Philadelphia Mayor’s office.
This was brought to national attention on October 7, 2003, when Philadelphia Police conducted a sweep of Mayor John F. Street’s office and found an electronic listening device. It was later discovered that the “bug” had been planted by the FBI as part of a city corruption investigation. Street was never charged in the investigation. Philadelphia officials and the mayor were outraged, especially with the timing coinciding with the Philadelphia mayoral election on November 4, 2003. Street’s campaign spokesman accused the federal government of attempting to influence the election (which Street ended up winning anyway). Meehan was applauded in the press and in the city for his handling of the situation, which resulted in twelve indictments including that of Street confidant Ronald White (who died before he could stand trial) and city treasurer Corey Kemp, who was convicted and sentenced to ten years in federal prison.
He announced on July 16, 2008 that he was joining the Philadelphia law firm of Conrad O’Brien Gellman & Rohn.
The year 1995 was the last time Meehan became the District Attorney for Delaware County as a Republican. Under Meehan’s leadership his team prosecuted many prominent cases, such as those involving the Du Pont Murder Trial, (a case that involved death of Olympic wrestler David Schultz by his millionaire donor John Eleuthere du Pont) as well as the murder of a student at the age of 22 identified as Aimee Willard (who was kidnapped from Route 476 and was found in an abandoned property at North Philadelphia).
