He is currently regarded as one of the best defensive shortstops alongside Park Jin-man of the KBO league.
While he’s mostly known as a defensive infielder who hits light, Park had his most offensively productive year in 2008 when Park scored .291 and set career- highs for RBI (36) as well as the number of runs (47) and also hits (102). Following the conclusion of the 2008 season Park was awarded the first Golden Glove Award at shortstop.

Park was a student at Daegu Commerce High School. Daegu, South Korea. The year 1999 was the first time he was included on the South Korea national junior team’s roster for the 1999 World Junior Baseball Championship. In the tournament, Park played the lead role alongside Choo Shin-soo as well as Jeong Keun-woo.
Park made his professional debut in 2000. He was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the 2nd round (2nd selection) from the 2000 KBO draft. Park was a bit of a disappointment in his first few seasons, but was awarded an infield spot in the Giants infield during 2003, appearing for 95 times.
In addition to achieving a level of personal success, Park was called up to the South Korea national baseball team for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He was expected to serve as backup to another defensive wizard Park Jin-man for Team Korea. However, Park Jin-man did not make the team because of an inflamed shoulder, and Park Ki-hyuk finally took over as the starting shortstop. Appearing in all 9 games for South Korea, Park Ki-hyuk struggled at the plate, going just 3-for-26 with 3 walks, but filled Park Jin-man’s void at shortstop perfectly, making numerous acrobatic defensive plays in the field.
