Norberto Napolitano was born in La Paternal, Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since his youth he felt great interest in music, his early influences being The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Freddie King, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and Manal. During the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, he was a fundamental part of the Argentine rock scene; he started playing as occasional guitarist for Manal, but soon joined Los Abuelos de la Nada and later Los Gatos.

In 1971, he formed “Pappo’s Blues” and that same year released his first album, and was also part of the 1973 documentary “Hasta que se ponga el sol”. During the first era of Pappo’s Blues in the 1970s there were constant line-up changes; one of the members was Hannibal Reitano, former guitar player of Comandante Energia and later in the 1980s they played in London, England. Napolitano was the only permanent member of the band. Between 1975 and 1980 Pappo lived alternately in England and Argentina, in the United Kingdom he was in contact with new genres such as punk and the new wave of heavy metal.
