At the time of 2011’s Tamil Nadu state elections, Geetha Jeevan was defeated by S. T. Chellapandian of the AIADMK party with around 27000 votes. However, in the elections of 2016, she beat the AIADMK candidate with around 20000 votes.
Geetha Jeevan served as a constituent the chairperson position in the Thoothukudi district panchayat from 1996 to 2006. She beat Danielraj from AIADMK by a margin of 15000 votes in the Thoothukudi district to become a elected to the assembly. Her Social Welfare ministry portfolio was awarded to her after Poongothai Aladi was involved in a phone-related controversy.

P. Geetha Jeevan (born 6 May 1970) is the present MLA of the Thoothukudi constituency of 15th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. She was the Minister for social protection within Tamil Nadu during the 2006-11 DMK Administration and prior to her appointment in the post, she was responsible for the Ministry of Animal Husbandry.
