His father, late P.T. Chacko was a stalwart politician in Indian Politics especially from 1940 to the 1st of August 1964 i.e. until his death. Sri. P. T. Chacko was a member in the Indian Constituent Assembly that represented Travancore and Cochin from 1949. (The Constituent Assembly of India was created in 1949 to write the Constitution of India. In the aftermath of India’s declaration of freedom of Great Britain in 1947, its members were the first Parliament of the nation.) India was declared an independent Republic on January 26, 1950. The inaugural Lokh Sabha was constituted in 1952, and P. T. Chacko was a member from the Meenachil Lok Sabha Constituency. The year 1957 was the year that P. T. Chacko was elected the first leader of the opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. In 1960, he was elected as a member of the 2nd Kerala Legislative Assembly and become the Home Minister.

His first attempt to contest the General elections was in 1987, and was from the Vazhoor Legislate Assembly Constituency and at that time, he was unsuccessful. In 1989, he ran for the Lok Sabha election from Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha Constituency as the candidate of the Kerala Congress (M) and defeated Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Mr. P. P. Esthos and Mr. P. J. Joseph (political solider) and another Kerala Congress leader. From the time of that election until 2009, he was a regular representative of his Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha Constituency in the Lok Sabha for the last 20 years. The last time he ran for office in that Lok Sabha Constituency was in 2004 when it was his turn to run as the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and defeated both candidates of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and LDF and this victory was a major victory in the history of political politics in Kerala State. But, the Supreme court of India cancelled and disqualified the results of 2006 based on the fact the fact that he utilized his religion background to win over voters at the voting on May 10, 2004.

(2) W.P.(C) No.2654 of 2012 – the main issue in this case was the wrong entry in the National Register Of Large Dams in 2009, because in that register, 4 dams situated in the land of the Kerala had been shown as Dams situated in the land of the Tamil Nadu. Those Dams are Mullaperiyar, Parambikulam, Thoonakkadavu and Peruvaripallam. (Before filing the case he had approached the Govt. many times to correct the mistake, but didn’t correct.) In that case the Honorable High Court of Kerala, by its Judgment dated 22 November 2012 directed the Government of India to correct the National Register Of Dams and to make necessary entry with regard to the said Dams stating that those are situated in the land of Kerala.

Pursuant to the Delimitation Act, the Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha Constituency was abolished and after 14th Lok Sabha there is no Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha Constituency. Now Kerala Congress is in alliance with NDA and he is the National Committee member of the NDA. After his Lok Sabha term also, he is serving for the people especially among the various types of farmers, labourers, fishermen etc.

The late Mr. P. C. Thomas was elected as a member of the 6th Bar Council of Kerala in the year 1986.
