Oscar Cantoni Biography

Oscar Cantoni is one of the most popular and richest Catholic Priest who was born on September 1, 1950 in Leno, Lombardy, Italy. The boy was born in Lenno on September 1, 1950, and had moved together with family members to the village nearby, Tremezzo, at the age of eight. In 1970, following his having completed his studies in the Pontificio Collegio Gallio founded by the Somaschi Fathers and the Somaschi Fathers, he enrolled into the diocesan seminary to obtain specialized theological training. After 1975 Cantoni received the ordination of a priest from the Province of Como by the bishop Teresio Ferraroni. He was in pastoral duties in the church in Santa Maria Regina in Muggio and later devoted to the study of the faith at the Technical Institute of ‘Plinycomo’. On July 11, 2000, Cantoni was conferred the title of Honorary Prelate His Holiness Pope John Paul II. The year 2003 saw the end of all prior posts were cancelled because of Cantoni being appointed priestly vicar, an episcopal position that he held until he was designated an episcopal bishop by Pope John Paul II on 25 January 2005. On November 21, 2010, Cantoni was awarded the title as Grand Officer in the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and was appointed grand prior of the lieutenancy in Northern Italy by decree of Cardinal John Patrick Foley, the supreme master of the order.
